My Tai chi journey began in 1999 at the Pleasant Hill, California Recreation Center where Peter Marks was the instructor. Started off learning the 24 Yang Style Form and supplemented with Dr. Paul Lam videos ( I am now certified by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to instruct “Tai Chi for Beginners”, “Tai Chi for Arthritis”, “Tai Chi Seated and for Fall Prevention” ) then headed over to Civic Park on Saturday mornings to learn Chen Style Tai Chi from Mark Lowe whose father had been in the Chinese Special Forces. A move to Houston, Texas opened up a whole new world of tai chi for me! Starting with classes at the International Chen Style Tai Chi Center taught by Grandmaster Chen Jin Cai from Chen Village, Master Blue Siytangco, Sifu David Neighbors, and Master Xiao Ping Wu. A huge highlight in my life was traveling to China as a member of the 2005 USA Chen Style Tai Chi Team and visiting Chen Village, the birthplace of tai chi. I have had the privilege of teaching tai chi at hospitals, fitness centers, community colleges, YMCAs, churches, and around the world in Moscow, London, and Houston, Texas!
